Double Class Win For Rory Ending His Season With 2019 Championship Campaign In Sight

Double class win for Rory ending his season with 2019 championship campaign in sight

RORY Collingbourne has already set his sights on silverware next year after making an instant impact for Redline Racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season finale.

Newport’s Collingbourne, who drove for Welch Motorsport earlier in the 2018 campaign, recorded back-to-back victories in the Pro/Am class at Brands Hatch.

Collingbourne outshone many of the Pro category drivers over the two races at the famous Kent circuit, including teammate and championship runner-up Dino Zamparelli in race one.

Overall, the Welshman finished seventh and eighth in rounds 15 and 16 – the Porsche Carrera Cup is split into Amateur, Pro/Am and Pro categories.

It wasn’t long after celebrating his 21st birthday in Las Vegas last month that Collingbourne was given the chance to join Redline’s ranks alongside the likes of championship Zamparelli.

And having enjoyed such an impressive start to his time with the Teesside-based outfit, Collingbourne can’t wait for the 2019 season to come around.

“It was awesome to finish on such a high,” he said. “This gives me all the ammunition going into next year to win the championship.

“It felt quite different in the Redline car. At the start of the year I’d have been leading then in the second half of the race the car would overheat.

“It was great to see my performances get results at Brands Hatch, and to fit in straight away after being out of it for a while.”

He added: “The plan now is to work hard over the winter to secure as much sponsorship as possible to get a seat for next year.

“Racing isn’t just about the cars going around the track, it’s mainly about providing the hospitality and bringing businesses together to create deals that we all benefit from.”

Collingbourne, an ambassador for children’s charity Dreams and Wishes, drove a car borrowed for the meeting from Redline’s regular driver Fraser Robertson who was attending a family wedding.

Redline boss Simon Leonard said: “Rory was truly the star of the weekend.

“Having not been in the car for nearly four months, and not worked with us before, to come in and be bang on the pace from the off, and then pick up a pair of class victories, is mightily impressive.

“Running up in fifth overall at one stage in race two was superb and he didn’t look out of place battling wheel-to-wheel with the Pro drivers.

“He should be delighted with his performance and we hope that we can work together in the future.”
